1813 Campaign – The Rosenheim Campaign

Germany

The next phase of the campaign is set in southern Germany and is for control of the town of Rosenheim, just west of Munich.   It has nothing to do with the campaign, but Jan and I spent two very happy weeks there in 1970.

This map shows the campaigns fought in Germany. Each square is the area covered by a campaign phase.    Each star shows the location of a campaign phase, and the colour who won it.   You will see that the Austrians won all six previous campaigns in southern Germany.   The white star is Rosenheim.

Southern Germany

This map shows southern Germany is more detail.   The area outlined in white is the Rosenheim campaign area.   Each square is the area covered by a wargames table.
Only major terrain features are shown on this map.
Rosenheim Campaign Area

This map is used for all campaign movement, and the campaign diary blog.    Each square is a 2x2 foot scenic square on the wargames table.   This is not an exact description of the scenic square.   It is a compromise between the terrain detail shown on the previous map, and the terrain square.   It includes all of the terrain used on the wargames table, including villages and farms, plus wooded areas.   The location of each corps and depot is shown at the start of the campaign.

Rosenheim Wargames Map

This map is used to transfer the battles from the campaign map to the wargames table.  It shows the exact terrain on each scenic tile.   Each square has a number on the top right, which is the number of the scenic tile.   This makes it very easy to create the wargames table from the campaign map.   In addition each individual hill is shown, rather than the mountain range.   Finally each village or farm is identified.  For example there are two village options, and on this map they are shown as village 1 or village 2.  This is to ensure that I get to use the whole collection of terrain, rather than just choose any village or farm.

Campaign Comments

The campaign area chosen is in strict rotation.   I have a record of each campaign phase, showing the dates started and concluded.   This insures that I use each wargames army in rotation.   This is the 32nd campaign phase in the 1813 campaign, and the 7th in Southern Germany.   The last phase in this area was Nuremberg and was completed in April 2018.

I don’t really mind which army wins which campaign phase, but in this particular case it would be nice if the Austrian’s lost for once.
