Comments

French retake the town of Bargas.

6th cavalry brigade join forces with 4th infantry brigade to attack the town.

As they approach the guerrillas abandon the town and retreat into the mountains

To the west 13th French army attack the walled town of Adjucen

1st Spanish army deploy to the east of the town to engage the French as they leave the mountains

The French quickly outflank the Spanish position, and force their artillery to withdraw

The Spanish infantry and cavalry soon follow them.

This retreat without battle results in an uncertain end to the wargame

It allows the retreating army to avoid more casualties

The attacking army does not have time to reach and take the town

And, in fact, just postpones everything for another 24 hours.

The guerrillas attack a French convoys between Toledo and Nambroca, but are driven off with ease.

The campaign is going badly for the Spanish.

  1. Thistlebarrow,

The French steamroller seems to be gathering momentum, and it would be advisable for the Spanish to concede territory and retain whatever forces they have to fight another day.

    All the best,

    1. Hi Bob

The Spanish have to hold Merida or lose the campaign
So crunch time is getting near
All will depend on French attrition and lines of supply, as it should.

I have no idea how it is going to work out
I would really like the Spanish to win
But I would settle for a draw

      regards

      Paul

  2. I read the first two line and thought "French on garrison duty, in Spain that's as bad as being on the battlefield!" Good luck with the battles, may your dice roll hot!

    1. In this campaign the only way the Spanish can hope to win is through French attrition. Each captured town needs a French infantry brigade as garrison. When the guerrilla capture a French held town the French have to detach cavalry or infantry brigades to retake the town and open lines of communication. It all takes time, and the French need to defeat the Spanish field army before they run out of time - and supplies.

I could do with a few "hot dice" rolls !
