Thanks for your comments.
The campaign ...Hi James

Thanks for your comments.

The campaign is based on taking towns and cities, so FUBA (fighting in a built up area) is going to happen in most of the battles.

The game is restricted to 12 moves, which equals one campaign day (12 hours). So possession of the town has to be decided in about 4-6 moves.

Supports has to be the answer, but how to model them is the problem. I think morale has to play a large part as well.

At present I am considering one brigade to garrison each town section, with a maximum of one more brigade to support. Both will be inside the section, but only one can fight. When the garrison is routed the reserve must pass a morale test. If they pass they can then counter attack. Both the reserve, and the winning enemy brigade, will be disordered. But the reserve will get plus 1 on the combat test for impetus. This would give them a small advantage, but still reward the enemy brigade for winning the previous melee.

I think it should work, but it will require a few games involving BUA to see how it works in practice

regards

Paulthistlebarrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00077298970769942656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-97754405909576170.post-73752547436494417902020-10-28T02:03:23.529+01:002020-10-28T02:03:23.529+01:00Interesting conundrum Paul. To me the problem is a bit to do with trying to incorporate a smaller scale of action into a larger scale game. The simplified way that you were doing it seemed appropriate for the scale, but those draws were giving you 'silly' results. Perhaps if you require some kind of morale test in which to continue, which could include the presence of any sort of supports? Or, maybe a bit of a change in the way things work so that additional troops can be fed in from supporting brigade(s)?
Regards, JamesJames Fisherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17897755636246185173noreply@blogger.com
